MLIS Portfolio

In 2008, the portfolio was the final requirement for attaining an MLIS at the University of Washington's iSchool. It required narrative and evidence in five areas: technology, teaching, service, intellectual, and leadership. It's offline undergoing some tinkering at the moment, but here's my favorite project from graduate school. In this paper, I examine the original architectural drawings for the Space Needle in Seattle -- both as it was built, and preliminary drawings -- and the Space Needle's place at the World's Fair of 1962. I also discuss how the Fairgrounds were utilized long before and long after the Fair, from a sociological and anthropological perspective. The Space Needle drawings are only one example from a long line of visual representations illuminating past uses of this important cultural space in Seattle. Written while in grad school, and while working at the University of Washington Special Collections Library.Â
